Journalists` leaders urge journos, professionals to join Feb 28 grand rally

Dhaka, Feb 25 (UNB) – The leaders of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Monday urged the journalists and professionals to join their grand rally to be held in the capital on Thursday.

Speaking at a meeting held at the National Press Club (NPC) on Monday to review the preparations for the Feb 28 grand rally, the leaders of the two journalists` bodies called upon all concerned to make the grand rally a success.

The BFUJ and DUJ factions on Saturday announced that they will jointly organise the grand rally in front of the NPC on Thursday in protest against repression on journalists and media people across the country and vandalising and arson attacks on different media offices, including The Daily Amar Desh, The Daily Sangram, Naya Diganta and different private television stations, including Diganto TV, by police and ruling party men and filing of false cases against the Daily Amar Desh`s acting editor Mahmudur Rahman, etc.

Chaired by BFUJ president Ruhul Amin Gazi, the preparatory meeting was attended, among others, by BFUJ secretary Shawkat Mahmud, DUJ president Abdus Shahid and secretary Baker Hossain, a DUJ release said.
